The school opened in 1919. It is situated on the northern side of Harrogate, a few miles from the edge of the Yorkshire Dales, with areas of educational interest within walking distance, both urban and rural.
The original building is of traditional design and the open central quadrangle (Tolly’s Garden) helps to create a generally pleasing working environment for staff and children. At the end of August 2002, a much-needed extension was completed providing us with 3 new classrooms, offices, reception area and hail storage. In total, the accommodation includes hail with staging and lighting, 12 permanent classrooms, computer suite, music room, games store, special needs room (named Oasis), offices for Head Teacher, Deputy Head Teacher and full time Clerical Assistant, staff resources room and a strong room for audio/visual equipment and science materials. The corridors have been adapted in places to provide library and working areas for children and two of theclassrooms used by upper KS2 can be linked into one of these. There is a separate kitchen and dining area providing school meals.
Areas of the school site are being developed to offer scope for environmental education and outdoor play. This has included tree and hedge planting, raised beds, seating and wild area. Since the completion of the extension, fences have been erected to provide a safe and secure environment for all children.
